Owen Kelly commutes between Dubai where he works as a consultant and his home in Sydney.

Though, unlike Kelly, the “overseas commuter” will base themselves in one country and commute back to their native land only when necessary for work. The emergence of the trend will be firmly established by 2016.

I enjoyed this analogy for a computer’s hard disk:

The hard drive is your computer’s cupboard under the stairs: a large, if unruly, storage space full of important stuff. Unlike a cupboard, a hard drive is a mechanical device that often proves to be a computer’s Achilles heel, so you must handle it with care.

Work is currently under away to install a wi-fi hot spot in a Caribbean marina, making it possible to run an internet based business from a yacht. Cable and Wireless is rolling out the network in the islands.

“We have found it is hugely popular with tourists. Initially everybody as- sumed that if you go on holiday the last thing you would want to take is a laptop but now it is more than just a working tool it is a communication tool and entertainment centre. There is a comprehensive review of the Sony VAIO FE590 at notebook review.com.

The VAIO FE is very light for its size and has a great look too it. In terms of battery life it gets close to four hours when I’m in lectures throughout the day and around 3 hours watching videos, it has a beautiful crystal clear screen which is fantastic for my 3D art as the colors stay true.

From modelling to travel photography

Interesting story about a young Malaysian girl has taken a career in modelling to travel photography.

The story also has some nice pictures.

Her advice: Carry a big camera:

When I was in a remote and poorer section of India, I was harassed by a bunch of teenage boys. I whipped out my camera with its 300mm lens and chased them with it. Oh yeah, the camera’s good for taking great shots too.

The dangers of Wi-fi

Filed under: News — Mike at 7:22 pm on Monday, April 17, 2006

Wi-fi is incredibly convenient for travellers on the road. Free wireless conncections abound in large cities and hotels.

However, by logging on to a free, unsecure connection you could be putting yourself at considerable risk.

Without using any protection, anyone else sharing the wireless connection can gain access to your computer.
